Why Quartzite?

All the Beauty of Marble — Without the Worry

Many homeowners fall in love with the look of marble but hesitate because of its maintenance requirements. Quartzite offers a compelling alternative: the same sweeping veins and luxurious appearance, formed naturally from sandstone under extreme heat and pressure — resulting in a stone that's significantly harder and more resistant to etching and staining than marble.

At Precision Granite Works, we work with a carefully curated selection of quartzite slabs, each chosen for its exceptional movement, color, and character. Whether you're designing a statement kitchen island or a spa-inspired bathroom vanity in New Hampshire, quartzite delivers a result that's genuinely breathtaking. It's one of several natural stone countertop options we fabricate in-house.

Sourcing & Slab Selection

Choosing the Right Quartzite Slab

"Quartzite" gets used loosely in the stone industry — some material sold under that name is actually softer, marble-based dolomite that won't hold up the way true quartzite does. Before we fabricate any slab, we verify it's genuine, silica-based quartzite from suppliers we trust, so you're not surprised by etching or staining down the road.

Because every quartzite slab is a unique piece of natural stone, veining, movement, color saturation, and finish can vary meaningfully even within the same named variety. We encourage every customer to compare full slabs in person at our Epsom showroom rather than choosing from a small sample chip — what a slab looks like up close and how the pattern will lay out across your seams can only really be judged at full size.

We'll also talk through slab layout with you before fabrication — where the boldest veining should land, how a single slab reads across an island versus a run of perimeter counters, and how your chosen finish (polished, honed, or leathered) will affect the final look.

Surface Finishes

Quartzite Finish Options

The finish you choose changes how quartzite looks and feels in your space.

Polished Finish

High-gloss finish that amplifies the stone's natural color depth and veining. Spectacular for statement surfaces. The most popular finish for kitchen countertops.

Honed Finish

Smooth, satin-matte finish with a softer, more understated look. Popular for bathrooms and low-key kitchens. Slightly more forgiving with fingerprints.

Leathered Finish

Lightly textured finish that adds depth and hides fingerprints. A distinctive, artisan look for bold spaces. Excellent for dark quartzite varieties.

What NH Homeowners Say

Quartzite Projects We're Proud Of

"We chose Super White quartzite for our kitchen island and it completely transformed the space. Shawn walked us through every step and the fabrication was flawless — every corner, every cutout was perfect. We get compliments every single time someone visits."

Rebecca T.

"We were nervous about quartzite after reading that some products are mislabeled. Precision Granite Works was upfront about sourcing and quality from the first conversation. The Taj Mahal they installed in our master bath is absolutely stunning."

Daniel & Marta F.

"I've been dreaming about marble countertops for years but was scared of the maintenance. The team suggested Sea Pearl quartzite as an alternative — same luxurious look, much tougher. Couldn't be happier with the result or the process."

Care & Maintenance

Keeping Your Quartzite Beautiful

Quartzite is relatively low maintenance compared to marble, but a few simple practices will keep it looking its best for decades.

Seal annually or as recommended to protect against staining
Clean with mild dish soap and warm water — avoid harsh chemicals
Use cutting boards — quartzite resists scratches but blades can dull
Wipe up spills promptly, especially acids like wine or citrus
Use trivets for extreme heat, though quartzite handles it well
Avoid abrasive cleaners that can dull the polished surface

See care tips for every stone type.

The Details That Matter

Seams, Sinks, Cutouts & Edge Profiles

Because quartzite is a natural stone with real movement and veining, seam placement matters more than it does with an engineered material. On large islands or long runs, we plan seams around the slab's pattern so they fall in the least noticeable spot and, wherever possible, follow the natural veining so the joint reads as part of the stone rather than a hard line.

Sink and cooktop cutouts require extra care with quartzite given its hardness — we use diamond tooling suited to the material and reinforce cutout corners to prevent stress cracks. Undermount sinks are common and look clean with a polished edge, though we'll talk through whether your chosen quartzite variety and finish is well-suited to an undermount installation versus a drop-in.

Edge profile is as much a style choice as a functional one — from a simple eased edge to a bold bullnose or ogee. See our full edge profile options to get a sense of what pairs well with quartzite's natural drama, or ask us during your templating visit.

What Affects a Quartzite Countertop Quote?

Every quartzite project is different, so we don't quote generic per-square-foot numbers. Here's what actually drives the cost of your specific project.

Slab selection and variety — rarer, more dramatic slabs cost more than more widely available ones
Total project size and linear footage of countertop
Number and type of sink and cooktop cutouts
Edge profile choice — simple eased edges vs. detailed profiles
Whether you're adding a standard or full-height backsplash
Number of seams and how the layout is planned across your space
Installation complexity, including old countertop removal and any plumbing or electrical adjustments

The only way to get an accurate number is a free, itemized quote based on your slab, layout, and cutouts. Request a quote or call 603-736-0004.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quartzite Countertop FAQs

Common questions from New Hampshire homeowners considering quartzite.

What is quartzite and how is it different from quartz?

Quartzite is a 100% natural stone formed when sandstone is subjected to intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. The result is one of the hardest natural stones available. Quartz, by contrast, is an engineered product made from ground stone crystals mixed with resin. Quartzite looks more like marble — dramatic veining, natural movement, unique slabs — while quartz offers consistent, repeating patterns. If you want the natural beauty of marble with superior durability, quartzite is your answer.

Is quartzite harder than granite?

Yes. Quartzite ranks 7 on the Mohs hardness scale compared to granite's 6–6.5. This makes it exceptionally resistant to scratching, chipping, and the daily abuse of a busy kitchen. It's one of the hardest countertop materials you can choose.

Does quartzite need to be sealed?

Yes. Unlike engineered quartz, natural quartzite is porous and should be sealed after installation and approximately once a year thereafter. Sealing protects against staining from oils, wine, and acidic liquids. At Precision Granite Works, we apply a professional-grade impregnating sealer after every installation and can provide re-sealing as a maintenance service.

Will quartzite etch like marble?

High-quality, properly-sealed quartzite is significantly more etch-resistant than marble. Marble etches easily when it contacts acids because it's calcium carbonate. Quartzite is silica-based — it's not reactive to mild acids in the same way. That said, quartzite quality varies widely: some 'quartzite' on the market is actually soft marble mislabeled. We only source and fabricate genuine quartzite from reputable suppliers.

What are the most popular quartzite colors and varieties?

The most popular quartzite varieties we work with in New Hampshire include Super White (a bright, dramatic white with bold gray veining), Taj Mahal (warm cream with soft golden movement), Calacatta Macchia Vecchia (brilliant white with dramatic dark veining), Azul Macaubas (rare blue-gray with crystal movement), and Sea Pearl (soft gray-green with subtle metallic shimmer). Each slab is unique — we encourage visiting our showroom to select your slab in person.

How long does quartzite countertop installation take in New Hampshire?

From your first call to finished installation, most projects take 1–2 weeks. We schedule a templating visit to digitally measure your space (1–2 hours), fabricate in our Manchester shop over 3–5 business days, then install — typically in one visit of 3–6 hours. We'll give you a specific timeline at your consultation.

Do you fabricate quartzite for bathrooms as well as kitchens?

Absolutely. We fabricate quartzite for kitchen countertops, islands, bathroom vanities, wet bars, fireplace surrounds, and custom applications throughout the home. Quartzite's dramatic veining and luxury presence makes it spectacular in master baths and powder rooms.

Can quartzite be used for outdoor kitchens in New Hampshire?

Quartzite performs well outdoors due to its hardness and UV stability. It handles New Hampshire's freeze-thaw cycles better than many materials, though we recommend discussing your specific application with us. Proper sealing is especially important in outdoor settings.
