Does quartz need to be sealed?
No — never. This is one of quartz's most important advantages. Quartz is engineered with resin binders that fill the microscopic pores, making the surface completely non-porous. There is nothing for a sealer to penetrate. Applying sealer to quartz is a waste of money and time — it won't bond and will simply bead off or leave a hazy residue.
Can you put hot pans on quartz countertops?
We recommend against it. Unlike granite, quartz contains resin binders that can discolor or crack under sudden extreme heat — a phenomenon called thermal shock. Always use trivets or hot pads when placing hot cookware on quartz. This is the one meaningful practical disadvantage of quartz versus granite in a kitchen environment.
