Its appearance is marble-like: warm beige and cream backgrounds with flowing grey, white, and occasionally burgundy veining. Its durability profile is closer to granite: hard, dense, and significantly more resistant to etching than marble.
The variable nature of the stone — some slabs lean harder and more quartzite-like, others have more calcite content and behave slightly more like marble — is why the classification debate continues.
